JOB card contains the parameters and the details which are applied to all the steps in JCL.

JOB card parameters are treated as global and apples to each step in the JCL.

If parameters are coded at step level, the priority is step level parameters and next JOB level parameters.

JOB card parameters can be divided into two types based on their usage.

  1. Positional parameters
  2. Keyword parameters.

Let’s discuss each parameter one by one.

Positional parameters:

The parameters which are very specific to its position in JOB card called positional parameters.

Positional parameters information need for OS.

Positional parameters starts immediately after JOB operation specified.

Positional parameters starting position is 16th column.

Positional parameters are mandatory.

Positional parameters can be bypassed by using ‘,’ which informs the system that positional parameter bypassed.

Positional parameters are enclosed with parenthesis “()” and separated by Comma (,).

There are two positional parameters available in JOB.

		1. Accounting information
		2. Programmer name

Keyword parameters:

The parameters apart from positional parameters used in JOB card called as Keyword parameters.

All Keyword parameters are optional.

Keyword parameters can be coded in any order.

Keyword parameters follow programmer name.

Each keyword parameter separated by comma (,).

Information passed in Keyword parameters used by the JOB.

Keyword parameters information applies to all steps in the JOB.

Keyword parameters can be specified at the JOB card or at step level.

Each keyword parameter is independent and not dependent on any other parameters.
